Our mission is to propagate and grow the strongest, hardiest and most attractive Cycads possible, make them available to the most discerning American gardeners and collectors and at the same time save these beautiful endangered species from extinction. In our display garden we have large colonies of Zamia integrifolia and Zamia furfuracea  from which we produce our seedlings, juvenile, landscape and specimen size plants.  Our  Zamia loddigesii colony is fairly young and only producing seedlings at this point. We have also started a colony of Dioon Edule which is still immature. When starting our nursery we made a conscious decision to specialize in a limited number of varieties of cycads and to produce only the finest quality of each species. In the future we will add other colonies to our display garden and when we have mature "parent plants" from which to propagate we will make other varieties available to you. All our Plants are grown from Seed produced in our own  gardens.

Zamia integrifolia : ( Commonly known as Coontie ) come in a narrow leaf variety, sometimes called Zamia floridana  or Zamia pumila and a broad leaf variety previously referred to as Zamia umbrosa. Both varieties have soft leaves and are unarmed  (they have no spines on leaf stems) and their emergent leaves are a soft bright green. They are among the faster growing cycads and will attain a spread of 3ft and height of 2.5 ft. -  when planting their mature size should be taken into consideration. Group plantings create a lush feeling in the landscape. Drought and frost tolerant - excellent Xeriscaping qualities !! Our colony is mature and producing from seedlings to specimen sized plants.

Zamia furfuracea :  ( Commonly known as Cardboard Palm) sometimes referred to as Zamia  maritima. These large showy cycads are commonly referred to as "cardboard" because the leaves (even in young plants) are stiff and feel almost like cardboard. They are armed with spikes on the back of their stems which will scratch like rose thorns. Their emergent leaves are a light golden brown, which changes to green as the leaf matures. They are also among the faster growing cycads and can achieve a spread of 5ft. or produce multiple crowns and become a large clump, of course their size can be controlled by pruning or division. Striking at both sides of an entry  - or in the landscape. Also drought, frost and salt tolerant !! Our mature colony is producing seedlings to specimen sized plants.

Zamia Furfuracea (Cardboard Palm)

Zamia loddigesii : Similar to the furfuracea in that the mature leaves are stiff and have a "cardboard" feel but the emergent leaves are soft and light green, their stems are moderately armed. They are lower growing than the furfuracea and the leaves from the multiple heads tend to overlap and form a very attractive detail in the landscape. Also drought, frost and salt tolerant !! Our colony is fairly young and only producing seedlings for sale at this point.

Dioon Edule : Similar to (and obviously a replacement for ) the Cycas Revoluta, (Commonly known as Sago Palm) which is being decimated by Asian scale. The edule is arboreal, producing a trunk and a flush of leaves at the crown which is similar to, but more upright than that of the Cycas revoluta. Our colony is immature but as soon as it starts to produce we will update this information. Visit our " Cycads for Sale"  page and  buy online.
